Rites for Mrs. Dyer Held Monday

Large Assemblage of Friends, Profusion of Flowers Give Evidence of High Esteem

Funeral services were held at three o'clock Monday afternoon at Union Church in memory of Mrs. Ernest B. Dyer whose unexpected passing Saturday morning at Fitzgibbon Hospital brought sorrow to such a large circle of friends throughout the county.

The assemblage of friends and the profusion of lovely floral pieces spoke so eloquently of the esteem in which sh was held. She was one who when she decided a thing was right never wavered. Her quiet, unassuming manner had a marked influence in the home—a home where existed so much love and companionship—a husband and wife rarely separated, daughters who have followed the training of a meticulous mother—grandchildren who were so loved by her and who will always remember her sweet influence. This home was enjoyed not only by the family but by friends, for her greatest pleasure was in opening it to church and community affairs and in entertaining friends and large family gatherings.

Bessie Alma Blackburn, daughter of John W. and Louisa Nye Blackburn, was born December 21, 1882 at the old Blackburn home which joins the present Dyer farm on the north. She united with the Saline Presbyterian Church at the age of fourteen and was a loyal member throughout her entire life. On December 16, 1903, she was united in marriage to Ernest B. Dyer. Three lovely daughters came to bless this union, Dorthy—Mrs. Dan Kiser, Evelyn—Mrs. James Miles, Genevieve—Mrs. Arthur Ehrnman. Others who survive are three grandchildren, Robert and James Kiser and Susan Ehrnman; a sister, Mrs. Ernest Sailor; a foster brother, Clarence Blackburn, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services were conducted by the Rev. Lenox Crockett, pastor of Saline Presbyterian Church, Marshall. Mrs. Lyman Firestone, Miss Mary Ann Wilson, John Dingley and Mr. L. W Shultz formed a quartet which sang so effectively, "Asleep In Jesus," "Saved By Grace," and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." Mrs. Shultz accompanied at the piano.

Those who carried the body to its final resting place were: I. G. Dyer, Emmett Dyer, Beverly Winslow, Ernest Gordon Tanner, Joseph Clyde and Gordon Blackburn.

The flowers were carried and arranged by Miss Marjorie Sailor, Mrs. Oliver Marshall, Mrs. O. W. Shelnutt, Mrs. Paul Marsh, Mrs. C. M. Blackburn, Mrs. Joseph Clyde, Mrs. Emmett Dyer and Mrs. Elvin Board.
