Fourteen small nephews and nieces of the bride stretched white satin ribbons to form an aisle for the bridal party at the wedding of Miss Ruth Elwell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Tallmadge Elwell, 945 Fourteenth avenue southeast, and Mr. Theodore English Ford of Kansas City, Mo., formerly of La Grange, Ill., which took place at 4:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elwell. Ferns, palms and American Beauty roses, the flower of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, of which Miss Elwell is a member, decorated the living room where the service was read by Dr. G. P. Conger. The children who formed the aisle, with the little girls wearing taffeta and georgette frocks in pastel shades, and the boys, in white suits, included Carolyn, Isabel and Louise Cook, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. George E. Cook; Lorraine, James, David and Donald, children of Mr. and Mrs. James T. Elwell, Jr., of Forest Lake, Minn.; Elizabeth Alden, Robert and Richard Weigel, children of Mr. and Mrs. Howard M. Weigel; Edwin S. Elwell, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Elwell; Thomas S. Elwell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Watson Elwell, and Jane and Evelyn Elwell, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Elwell.
Nuptial music was played preceding the ceremony by a quartet including violin, cello, flute and piano, with the "Bridal Chorus" from "Lohengrin" for the processional and Mendelssohn's "Wedding March" for the recessional.
A formal gown of silver cloth, made sleeveless with full flaring skirt, was worn by the bride, who entered on the arm of her father. Her veil of tulle, caught with a coronet of rose point lace and orange blossoms, was the one worn by her sisters, Mrs. Cook and Mrs. Weigel, at their weddings. She carried a shower bouquet of orchids and white roses.
The bride's sister, Miss Mary Elwell, who attended her as maid of honor, wore a sleeveless gown of green chiffon and taffeta, and carried an arm bouquet of pink roses. Little Lawrence Robert Elwell, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Elwell, and small nephew of the bride, who acted as ringbearer, wore a black velvet suit with a white silk blouse, and carried the ring in a white rose.
Mr. Ford had as his best man Mr. Harold Comstock of Minneapolis, formerly of La Grange.
Garden flowers were used through the rooms for the reception which followed the ceremony. Receiving with the bridal party were Mr. and Mrs. Elwell, parents of the bride, and Mr. and Mrs. E. W. McConahay, brother-in-law and sister of the bridegroom. Mrs. Elwell was gowned in poudre blue georgette with a corsage of pink roses, and Mrs. Mcconahay wore a green georgette gown with a corsage of orchids and lilies of the valley.
Mr. and Mrs. Ford will leave tonight for a wedding trip by way of the Great Lakes to Buffalo, N. Y., then to New York and Atlantic City. They will be at home at 525 East Armour boulevard, Kansas City, after October 1.
