A CHARMING SIMPLE HOME WEDDING took place at 8 o'clock last evening in the home of Mrs. Louis N. Loomis, 1063 Thirteenth Avenue southeast, when her daughter, Miss Veda Hope Loomis, was married to Mr. Edwin S. Elwell. Owing to the recent death of Miss Loomis' father, only the members of the two families witnessed the service, which was read by the Rev. Hobart K. Painter, formerly of Como Congregational Church.
Miss Marie Spies of St. Paul played the Lohengrin and Mendelssohn wedding marches, and Mrs. Joseph Cloyd Williams sang "Because" by Tirehesmeyer and "At Dawning," by Cadman.
The altar was arranged in the living room of palms and ferns with tall standards of Easter lilies placed on either side. The dining room was appointed in pink and a basket of pink roses was in the center of the table. The bridegroom's sisters, the Misses Mary and Elizabeth Elwell, entered first, stretching the white satin ribbons. They both wore pale green satin. Little Jane Elwell, the 2-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alden Elwell, carried the ring in an Easter lily. She wore a white frock of French embroidered lingerie.
The bride entered alone and was met at the altar by the bridegroom. She was in ivory white satin trimmed in Chantilly lace. The lace formed a tunic in front and was caught to the train with pearl ornaments. The waist was of lace with a bolera of satin, caught at one side with an ornament. The train fell from under the bolera, giving the long effect of a court train and the gown was finished with a wide girdle of the satin. Her tulle veil was in cap effect and was held at one side with a cluster of orange blossoms, which the bride's mother had worn at her wedding, thirty-one years ago. She wore the bridegroom's gift, a lavalliere of platinum set in diamonds and carried a shower bouquet of white roses and lilies of the valley.
The bride's mother was gowned in fuchsia French faille and wore a corsage bouquet of violets. Following the ceremony, supper was served to twenty-four guests.
Mr. and Mrs. Elwell left for two months' wedding trip in California, stopping at the Grand Canyon and visiting the expositions in San Diego and San Francisco, and returning by way of Seattle. They will be at home in Minneapolis after June 1. The bride's traveling dress was of battleship gray with a hat of cerise corded silk.
Both the bride and bridegroom are graduates of Minnesota in the class of 1910, Mr. Elwell graduating from the College of Law and his wife from the College of Science, Literature and Arts. Mr. Elwell is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James T. Elwell and is a member of Delta Theta Phi fraternity and the bride is a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority.
