DeWitt "D" Long, 96, of 300 Westminster-Canterbury Drive, Winchester, died Sunday, June 1, 1997, at his home.
Mr. Long was born Nov. 14, 1900, in Rockingham County, the son of Samuel W. and Ida Click Long. He was an industrial electrician and founded Winchester Electric Service in 1935. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Good Samaritan Bible class, the American Association of Retired Persons, and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
He married Fleta McLaughlin on Aug. 24, 1924, in Harrisonburg.
Surviving with his wife, are a son, Donald M. Long of Frederick County; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Mount Hebron Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. R.A. Dailey and the Rev. Dr. Stephen Hundley officiating.

Fleta McLaughlin Long of 300 Westminster Canterbury Drive died Saturday Jan. 6, 2001, in a local nursing home.
She was born in Rockingham County, the daughter of William and Gertrude Pollard McLaughlin.
She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Good Samaritan Bible Class.
She married DeWitt Franklin Long Aug. 24, 1924, in Harrisonburg. He died June 1, 1997.
Survivors include a son, Donald M. Long of Frederick County; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be private.
