A pleasant surprise party was tendered Miss Minnie Tupper at her home at the corner of Illinois and San Salvador streets last Saturday evening. The evening was delightfully spent with games, music and conversation. Refreshments were also served.

Daughters of Pioneers Elect Redwood Doctor President

REDWOOD CITY—Dr. Letitia Oakes of Edgewood road, Redwood City, is the new president of the Daughters of California Pioneers. She will be installed May 4 in San Francisco.

Dr. Oakes is the daughter of Ann Gregson Reed, the first white child of American parents, born in California, and whose parents, the james Gregsons, were residents of Fort Sutter. James Gregson was a blacksmth built the mill at Coloma, and was with James Marshall when he discovered gold in the mill-race there.

Final Rites Today For Mrs. Oakes

Funeral rites will be conducted today for Mrs. Letitia Reid Oakes, 94, whose grandparents came overland to California with the Grigs-by-Ide party in 1845.

She died Friday in a Redwood City hospital.

Mrs. Oakes was born in Monterey County, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Reid, members of pioneer California families.

Mrs. Oakes lived at 1203 Edgewood Rd., Redwood City.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. in Oak Hill Mortuary's Chapel of Roses. Interment will be in Oak Hill Memorial Park.
