Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the White's mortuary chapel at Watsonville for James Henry (Jim). Rowe, 75, known as the father of California 4-H clubs.
He died at 6 a. m. Tuesday at at his home near Watsonville. He had been ill only a short time.
He founded the Aromas Pig club, which later became the first 4-H club in the state, it is understood. For 17 consecutive years Rowe sponsored ham dinners at Aromas for the benefit of the club and had been interested 20 years in rural youth work. He was a member of a pioneer Pajaro valley family.

Survived by wife, Mrs. Ida Rowe; son, William Myron Rowe of Alhambra; daughter, Mrs. Karl Kurzbin of Monterey; brothers, Frank and Charles Rowe of Watsonville; grandchildren, Patricia and William Leal Rowe of Alhambra.

WATSONVILLE—Mrs. Ida E. Rowe, 83, widow of the late Jim Rowe, died here Sunday morning. She was a member of a pioneer California family and her mother, born at Sutter's Fort, was accepted as the first Anglo-Saxon child born in California.
Mrs. Rowe was a native of San Luis Obispo, the daughter of Robert and Anne Reid. She came here in early childhood and went to local schools, eventually becoming a school teacher in the old Union School of Santa Cruz County. Later she taught at Carrolton and Carneros Schools.
Her grandfather, James Gregson. was a member of the second emigrant party which came across the plains to California, arriving at Sutter's Fort Octo. 20, 1845. Her mother was born there Sept. 3, 1846.
She leaves one daughter, Mrs. Rhee Kurzbin of San Jose; a son, William Rowe of Alhambra; five sisters, Mrs. Alice Cox of Watsonville, Dr. Letitia Oaks, Redwood City, Mrs. Bertha Seely, Los Gatos, Lea Reid, Redwood City, and Mrs. Robert Lipton of Aromas; two brothers, Robert M. Reid of Watsonville and William Reid of San Jose; and two grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at White's Mortuary.
