Mr. and Mrs. Otis Wisman observed their 62d wedding anniversary informally with friends yesterday at their home, 502 Decatur Street. Mr. Wisman is recuperating following a serious illness recently.
The former Miss Sarah Elizabeth Hite, daughter of the late Harvey and Mary Ann (Lindamod) Hite was married to Mr. Wisman, son of the late Joseph Franklin and Luella (Maphis) Wisman, August 12, 1903. The ceremony was solemnized in Woodstock, Va. The couple moved to Cumberland to reside in October 1903.
Mr. and Mrs. Wisman are the parents of three children, Mrs. Ernest E. McCullough, Hartsville, S. C., Mrs. William C. Straw, Sr., Cumberland; and Franklin O. Wisman, South Bend, Ind. They have six grandchildren and four great grand children.
Mrs. Wisman is a great-great-granddaughter of Josia Hite the settler in the Shenandoah Valley, who went there in 1735. Busy with her housekeeping, Mrs. Wisman also collects antiques and does needlework and crocheting as well as making quilts.
Also a descendant of a pioneer Shenandoah Valley family, Mr. Wisman was employed by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, prior to engaging in the meat business in South Cumberland. Later he operated a food market on the corner of Frederick and Decatur Streets until he retired in 1943, because of ill health. Although drawing and painting are his hobbies, he also enjoys reading, TV and the radio.

Both descendants of prioneer families of the Shenandoah Valley, the couple was married in Woodstock, Va. In October of the same year, the couple came to Cumberland to reside. Mrs. Wisman is a granddaughter of Joseph Hite, the first settler in the Shenandoah Valley, who went there in 1735.
Mr. and Mrs. Wisman are the parents of three children, Mrs. Ernest E. (Zelia) McCullough, Myrtle Inlet, S. C., Mrs. William C. (Mary) Straw, Sr., Cumberland; and Franklin O. Wisman, Chambersburg, Pa. They have six grandchildren and seven great grand children.
A former employe of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, Mr. Wisman operated three stores, until forced to retire in 1943, because of illness. One was on Decatur Street, another on Furnace Street and the third at 500 North Mechanic Street. Following a heart attack in 1948, although bedfast, he pursued his hobby of painting and drawing. Most of his work is landscapes, he has done a few biblical scenes and one of an antique railroad train.
Mrs. Wisman's hobbies were collecting antiques and needlework, crocheting, and making quilts. Recently she too "doesn't do much of anything."

An informal family gathering marked the 70th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Otis Wisman, 409 Decatur Street, Sunday afternoon.

Franlin and Luella (Maphis) Wisman, August 12, 1903. Both descendants of pioneer families of the Shenandoah Valley, the couple was married in Woodstock, Va.
Mr. and Mrs. Wisman are the parents of three children, Mrs. Ernest E. McCollough, Pensacola, Fla.; Mrs. William C. Straw, Sr., 132 Bedford Street; and Franklin O. Wisman, Chambersburg, Pa. they ahve six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
In October of the same year they came to Cumberland, where Mr. Wisman found employment with the B&O Railroad. A few years later he entered the retail meat and grocery business, which he continued to operate in various locations, until his retirement in 1943.
After occupying their home at 502 Decatur Street for 52 years, it was purchased by the State Roads Commission as part of the site for the John J. McMullen Bridge, and they have relocated at their present address. At present the couple is confined to their room due to ill health.
In addition to the anniversary messages and gifts, the couple received a congratulatory letter from President Richard Nixon.

Otis Wisman, 89, of 409 Decatur Street, died yesterday at Memorial Hospital, where he had been admitted Friday.
A native of Shenandoah County, Va., he was a son of the late Joesph F. and Louella (Maphis) Wisman.
Mr. Wisman owned and operated the Wisman Grocery Store at the Corner of Decatur and Frederick Strrets for 43 years before his retirement.
Surviving are his widow, Elizabeth (Hite) Wisman; two daugters, Mrs. Ernest McCollough, Pensacola, Fla., and Mrs. W. Cecil Straw, city; a son, Franklin Wisman, Chambersburg, Pa.; a sister, Mrs. Richard Painter and a brother, Harry E. Wisman, both of Edinburg, Va.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The body is at the Kight funeral Home where friends will be received from 7 until 9 p.m. today and from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 p.m. tomorrow.
A service will be conducted there Thursday at 11 a.m. by Rev. W. Randolph Keefe Jr. Entombment will follow in Orse Hill Mausoleum.
