The death of Mrs. A. W. Lee has come as sad news to all those who reside near Walnut.
Mrs. Lee has been ill for many weeks past, and, although her death was not expected, yet all mourn her loss, for she held a warm place in the hearts of her friends.
A native of Orion, Ill., she moved early in life with her parents to Kansas, where later she was married to Mr. Lee. She and her husband came to Walnut and located there in 1887, and hence were among the early pioneers of this section.
She was 49 years of age at the time of her death. Her husband, seven children, three sisters and two brothers are left to mourn her loss. The brothers and sisters are: Mrs. John Blenz and Mrs. Louis Miller of Spokane, Mrs. Nellie Sowles of Los Angeles, Joseph Engle of Pomona and Burrel Engle, of Covina.
The funeral will be held on Sunday afternoon.

POMONA, Dec. 8.—Death yesterday claimed another of the prominent members of the Pomona Valley pioneer group. Alonzo W. Lee, 67 years of age, a resident of this section for the last thirty-seven years, succumbed to an illness of about two weeks, which consumed his failing strength. He passed away early Sunday morning at his home, 487 Kenoak Drive.
Mr. Lee is survived by his wife and six children, James Dewitt, Ernest and Arthur W. Lee, and Mrs. W. D. Persons, Mrs. F. W. Combs and Mrs. H. A. Persons. All reside in Walnut except Arthur Lee, who now lives in Whittier. seven grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church Tuesday, at 2 p.m. Dr. Floyd I. Beckwith, pastor of the church, will officiate. Interment will be in Pomona Cemetery.
Mr. Lee was born in Washington county, Indiana, October 31, 1857, where he engaged in farming. He came west in 1887 and settled at what was then Lemon station, now Walnut. For many years he operated what is now known as the Rowland ranch, and also owned extensive acreage in oranges and walnuts at the time of his death.
