Mr. Houston was born March 12, 1863 at Rushville, Ill. He came with his parents, John Purdy and Ellen McNeely Houston, to Saline County in 1867. The family settled on the farm, which has since been his home.
He was married January 15, 1915 to Edith Franklin.
Surviving him are his widow, a daughter, Barbara Houston, 15 years old; one brother, Sherman P. Houston, who resides in the same community; two sisters, Mrs. A. M. Irvine of Fort Scott, Kan., and Mrs. Florence McClelland of Olathe, Kan. He was affiliated with the Malta Bend Methodist Church, and a member of the Masonic Order.
Mr. Houston was a member of a pioneer family of western Saline, a family, whose industry, business ability and moral integrity have long been recognized. He was a tenderly devoted husband and father, and his family and home claimed his first interest.
